The Sandusky Radio Experimental League (SREL) was founded in 1932 and incorporated in 1952. In 2019, we achieved 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit organization. Our primary mission is to promote and advance the hobby of amateur radio.

In the early days of amateur radio, there were no commercial manufacturers of radio equipment. Most radios were either built from military surplus parts or constructed by hand—hence the word “Experimental” in our name. SREL was among the first organizations of its kind in northern Ohio. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our founding members, we remain one of the few amateur radio clubs fortunate enough to have a permanent meeting place to call our own.

About Us

Our Location

The Sandusky Radio Experimental League is located at 2909 W. Perkins Avenue in Sandusky, Ohio. Our clubhouse is easily accessible from Route 101 or Route 4, making it convenient for out-of-town visitors. Built in 1950 and expanded in 1954, the clubhouse underwent remodeling in 1974 following a fire. We own the building, which houses all of our equipment except for the 440 MHz repeater. Members have 24-hour access to the facility.

The clubhouse consists of three main areas. The largest is the meeting room, which also includes a small kitchen. The second area is a workshop equipped with an electronics bench, test equipment, and a mechanical construction area. The third is the operations room, home to our HF equipment, packet station, and computer systems.
